So many people in our Bay Area area community are affected by the fires raging in Northern Israel. Michal Kohane, the Israel Center Director, just shared her story on our blog. We'd love to hear your stories as well and hope you'll share them with us here.

I have been aware of the shrub fire hazard since 1996 when I was a Hebrew University. We were talking about different ways of controlling it when I came up with the idea of Texas Longhorn cattle eating it. I had suggested the idea to the JNF and others at the University and Volcani and later the government and department of agriculture. I repeatedly contacted the JNF and the America Jewish community. I was ignored until today. I had told many that the purpose was to eat the shrubs and reduce the fire hazard when I first started the project.
Fuel for the fire has been building up for dozens of years it will not be easy to stop. It will cause great damage, hopefully no more loss of life.
Israel needs a shrub control program. One that is not too expensive or dangerous to the environment. That is how I came up with the Israel Longhorn project http://longhorn-project
