The Israel Center of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties provides a cultural bridge, connecting the Bay Area Jewish community with Israel. This is achieved through a wide variety of enriching cultural, educational and social programs, as detailed below.
Aliyah – Promotes and facilitates Aliyah, relocation to Israel. Holds various events offering information on the various opportunities and possibilities of a life in Israel and facilitates and guides the process of making Aliyah.
Art &Culture - Getting to know and connecting to Israeli society and culture. From the most cutting-edge music, film, literature and visual arts to premier dance and theatre performances, The Art & Culture department brings Israel’s diverse and unique trends to the Bay Area, thus strengthening our bond to our own Jewish Identity and with the people of Israel
Campus - The Campus Division serves as a resource center for the different Israel programs for students, staff, professionals and faculty on campus by the production of events and activities that present contemporary Israel. The Campus department also serves as headquarters for Long-Term Israel Programs: study abroad and post-college opportunities through MASA and other programs.
Israel in the Gardens - Israel in the Garden, the largest Jewish community event in Northern CA, is held every year on the first Sunday in June. The event takes place at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco where an estimated 20,000 people gather to celebrate everything Israel from the food, to art and music and the coming together of our vibrant Jewish community.
The Gift of Israel - The Gift of Israel is a joint savings program made possible by contributions from synagogues, the Federation, and parents to ensure that teenagers can travel to Israel. A visit to Israel is a key stepping stone along the journey of Jewish identification, commitment, and connection.
Living Bridge Programs –
- Panim El Panim is a mission of 10 outstanding Israeli women who are professional and layleaders working on issues of Social Justice and Jewish Pluralism in Israel. They will be coming to the communities of San Francisco, Marin, and South Peninsula for a special visit that will include workshops, discussions, and a weekend retreat.
- Gvanim is a leadership development and promotingJewish pluralism in Israel program. The Israel Center’s part in this program is organizing the visit in the San Francisco Jewish community and showcasing pluralism in action.
MASA - MASA Israel Journey enables young Jews (18 to 30) from around the world to build a lasting relationship with Israel, strengthen their Jewish identity, and gain meaningful and beneficial experiences by participating in a long-term program in Israel.
Furthermore, MASA provides young Jewish adults with connections to programs, grants and scholarships towards program fees, as well as support, activities, workshops and resources while in Israel.
Russian Speaking Young Adults –Leadership trainings and retreats, educational and cultural events engaging the Jewish Russian speaking Young Adult community in the Bay Area. This department works to create a thriving Jewish environment for this community to create a strong Jewish Identity and connection to the larger Jewish community in the bay area and Israel.
TZAVTA Community - Founded in 1996, the Tzavta community is open to anyone interested in experiencing Israeli culture right here in the San Francisco Bay Area. In partnership with other organizations we bring the flavor of Israel to the Bay Area through a wide range of events for the Young Adult community.
