Leadership Development Associate

This position reports to the Leadership Development Director

General Description:

The Leadership Development Associate provides both programmatic and administrative support to the Leadership Development team. The essential functions and duties are as follows:

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Program Management:  Develop, manage and supervise the Federation Fellows program, a two year Leadership Development program for emerging volunteer leaders. Supervise the recruitment, interviewing, and on-boarding of program participants as well as manage curriculum development, workshop running, interface with local Jewish agency leadership, and act as a mentor to program participants.  
    • Provide programmatic leadership in ongoing development of all other Leadership Development programs including refining and creating all educational content and materials and play an active role in the management of program events, including providing oversight of all logistics (venue and catering, invitation, responses, managing event budgets). Attendance at some events outside of regular business hours necessary.
       
  • Committee Support and Management: Work in partnership with Leadership Development Director to run the Leadership Development Committee, Board Nominating Committee, in addition to the Board of Governors. Plan for committee meetings, including setting agendas, sending out meeting announcements, providing support materials, and taking responsibility for all meeting logistics (attendance, room reservation, food and drink delivery, clean up).  Work in partnership with leadership staff and volunteers to maintain all 70+ JCF committees. Attend committee meetings when asked.  The Associate will also be responsible for keeping records on committee structure and succession procedures, planning, and placement.
     
  • Database Management: Maintenance of accurate records related to the recruitment, identification, cultivation, and follow-up of JCF volunteers; produce reports requested by senior staff and colleagues. Maintain and train JCF staff on the volunteer module of the JCF data-base (Raiser’s Edge).
     
  • Supervise annual summer college intern: Supervise, manage, and mentor the annual Kohn intern. Create projects that are substantive to both the intern and the Federation. Schedule weekly check-ins with the intern. Give the intern ongoing professional development opportunities throughout the summer including scheduling informational interviews with other JCF staff. Increase the intern’s knowledge of Leadership Development, the Federation, in addition to current events related to the Bay Area Jewish Community.
     
  • Life-cycle of the volunteer: Take an active role in supporting all aspects of the life-cycle of the volunteer in the JCF. This may include meeting with volunteers (new and veteran), tracking their engagement with the JCF, providing guidance on involvement opportunities, and assessing the impact of volunteer’s experience, both for them and for the JCF.  In addition, take lead in maintaining data on volunteers’ service placement(s), duration, and rotation. Manage on/off-boarding of JCF Board of Directors.  

     
  • General
    • Perform all daily database maintenance, computer tasks and paperwork required to support the Leadership team in their work;
    • Assist with community communication; “Constant Contact” e-newsletter; maintain calendars and web pages;
    • Interface with key leadership and major donors;
    • Identify volunteer needs of the Federation;
    • Manage JCF mentorship program;
    • Strategize, implement and/or support the developing of new programs and initiatives;
    • Communicate and coordinate with members of the Federation staff; 
    • Keeps abreast of industry best practices regarding Leadership Development;
    • Ability to manage summer interns;
    • Reserve and coordinate rooms for the Wexner program;
    • Take ownership of annual volunteer surveys;
    • Other duties as directed by supervisor.

Education or Experience Equivalent to:

  • College Degree Preferred

Special Qualificiations (Skills, Abilities, License):

  • Superb communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Must be team-oriented and possess problem-solving ability;
  • Know when to seek direction, yet able to operate independently;
  • Candidate will have the highest professional integrity and discretion; strong interpersonal skills a must
  • Flexibility, including regularly reestablishing priorities and the ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast paced environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in formulating and implementing effective workflow processes, policies, and procedures;
  • Ability to speak respectfully with donors of all levels;
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office;
  • Experienced PowerPoint successes a plus;
  • Raiser’s Edge database experience preferred;
  • Ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Judaism and the organized Jewish community.
