Love & Religion: A Workshop for Interfaith Couples

Join an in-depth exploration of love and religion in your family, exploring the questions, decisions and celebrations facing couples from different backgrounds. While honoring all perspectives and traditions, we will discuss how best to communicate and meet the needs of your adult religious life. The four-class course builds community while addressing the central issues in your interfaith relationship, from in-laws to December holidays.

The atmosphere is judgment free, intimate and accepting of people with a broad range of beliefs and spiritualities, from deeply religious to atheist. We teach and support you as you consider how you will construct your home to reflect your shared values. And if kids might be in your future, we'll dig into issues of spiritual or religious upbringing. Throughout the course you'll have the opportunity to learn more about what will sustain your relationship, hear other couples' narratives and build community in both the struggles and celebrations of bringing two backgrounds together in one family.

Rabbi Mychal Copeland is the Bay Area Director of InterfaithFamily. She has worked with interfaith couples and families throughout her rabbinate, and her blog about interfaith family life can be found at InterfaithFamily.com. Mychal writes a monthly Torah column for the J: Jewish News Weekly of Northern California, and is the editor of the forthcoming book, Struggling in Good Faith: LGBTQI Inclusion from 13 American Religious Perspectives. She is passionate about opening the doors of Judaism wider and leading people towards a profound spiritual and religious life that embraces all of their disparate identities.
