So Much to Be Done: The Writings of Breast Cancer Activist Barbara Brenner

Suzanne Lampert, Barbara Brenner’s life partner, will be joined by editor Barbara Sjoholmand former Breast Cancer Action board member Elaine Elinson for this celebration of Barbara Brenner’s engaged, committed, and passionate activism.

Brenner, a lawyer and civil rights activist, became executive director of the San Francisco-based nonprofit organization Breast Cancer Action in 1995, two years after her own diagnosis of breast cancer. For the next fifteen years, she researched and wrote passionately on the subjects of breast cancer research, corporate profits, and health activism, and radically challenged the multi- million dollar breast cancer “industry.”

The book So Much to Be Done collects for the first time Brenner’s editorial columns from the BCA newsletter, The Source, and from the blog posts that followed her retirement. In the last years of her life, Brenner became more connected to her Judaism, giving sermons and writing commentaries until her death from ALS in 2013.
