9 Shalom Bayit With nothing but the things she could fit in her car Arlene age 25 drove across the country with her toddler. With her babys violent father engaged in a ruthless pursuit to track her down she arrived in San Francisco alone with no income and no safe place to stay. Seeking help Arlene found Shalom Bayit which has literally been a life-saver. Their phenomenal staff helped Arlene find housing provided emergency financial assistance connected her with legal services to advise on interstate custody and located a Jewish preschool for her son. She also receives counseling and attends a support group comprised of other Jewish women where she discovered the comfort and connection she had been craving. At two synagogues Shalom Bayit organized collections of gifts for her son and necessities for her ensuring that mother and son could celebrate a happy Chanukah. Because of this help Arlene feels that the Jewish community was and is there for her. Most importantly because of Shalom Bayit she and her son are safe and happy free from violence and thriving. Aging with grace at the Jewish Home My mom had her first weekend back at her apartment and it went without a hitch because of all your hard work said Edith. To the staff that kept her content responding to all her requests you made her feel safe and important. To those who provided speech and occupational therapy you set into play some good habits that I hope she will continue during her convalescence. And to everyone who helps maintain a healthy environment with good food art music birds bunnies books clean private rooms cable TV ice cream in the afternoon a gift shop a salon and a chapel. That was the best brisket I ever had my mother said. I love it here. Read more on how your dollars impact lives worldwide by visiting jewishfed.org.
