We seek to broaden and deepen Jewish engagement by helping Jews explore and connect with the rich diversity of Jewish life. Our goal is to double Jewish engagement in the Bay Area within the next 10 years. J E W I S H C O M M U N I T Y F E D E R AT I O N A N D E N D O W M E N T F U N D2 Erin feels grateful that she learned about the U.C. Berkeley Hillel trip early on in her freshman year and was able to go during winter break. Because of a deep and transformative experience Erin returned to Cal with a tightknit group of Jewish friends and felt comfortable enough to jump right in and become a student leader. Instead of the trip turning into a memory of an exotic vacation it became an extension of my current world. Every time I see someone from the trip I remember Israel and our shared experiences there as a group of Jewish students. Student scholarships that benefit the entire family We are not a religious family do not belong to a temple nor did we participate in the Bay Area Jewish community in any way before our son began school noted Susan a local writer. So Brandeis day school became our connection to other Jews it was where our children learned about their history where we celebrated holidays. Because of Brandeis our son wanted a bar mitzvah as will our daughter and certainly because of Brandeis both of my children have an awareness of themselves as Jews. Everyone deserves a fair chance to participate When Miles was born with a rare neuromuscular condition doctors said his horizons would be limited. That never stopped his family. Theyve overcome many obstacles making sure Miles enjoys the same activities growing up as his twin brother Jeffrey but they faced an unexpected hurdle in getting Miles integrated into the Jewish community. Judaism has always said we take care of our people his mom says. Everyone deserves a fair chance to participate. INCLUDE is a pioneering partnership between Jewish LearningWorks and the Federation designed to create awareness in the Jewish community educate teachers and help programs become more inclusive for kids with learning differences or physical or emotional challenges. Today Miles attends synagogue services goes to Hebrew school and swims at the JCC just like all the other kids.
