Student Debt Relief Pilot

Addressing Unmet Needs

Repaying Student Debt for Educators at Jewish Organizations

In 2017 the Federation launched our Student Debt Relief Pilot, in partnership with Bob Tandler and Valli Benesch, to repay student loans for educators as a strategy to enhance employee recruitment and retention. In November 2020, the Federation is expanding the Student Debt Relief Pilot through our partnership with Summer, a certified B Corporation combining innovative technology and policy expertise to serve student loan borrowers across the country. Our new partnership helps nearly every employee from participating employers to enroll in Summer and save on their student debt.

For Partner Employers

The new Student Debt Relief Pilot is easier for you to manage, the adminstrative costs are covered by the Federation, and you will not need to submit grant requests. To join the new program, please complete these two easy steps.

  1. Email us the total number of employees eligible to receive benefits and contact information for organization's benefits administrator.
  2. Promote the Pilot to eligible employees.

For Employees at participating Jewish Organizations

Employees (plus their spouse/partner/dependent children) at participating Jewish organizations who are eligible to receive benefits and have student debt may enroll in the Federation's Student Debt Relief Pilot through Summer.

Summer is the leading resource for borrowers to simplify and save on their student debt. The Federation partnered with Summer to provide eligible employees of Jewish organizations with access to cutting-edge student debt reduction tools and customized guidance to:

  • Assess, compare and enroll in savings options such as loan forgiveness and refinancing
  • Sort through and track personal loan situations with easy-to-use online tools
  • Lower monthly payments and/or total loan balances, depending upon goals
  • Access a dedicated team of student loan experts to provide step-by-step support
