Manager of Investments (Endowment and Donor Advised Funds)

POSITION SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the controller, the Manager of Investments for Endowment and Donor Advised Funds (DAF) is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day investments, accounting, and reporting operations for the Endowment, DAF, and related investments. The Manager will ensure accurate recording of investment activity and timely completion of required reports. The position provides oversight and guidance on the implementation of instructions from the Federation Investment Committee and executive team on investment transactions within multiple investment portfolios. Providing outstanding customer service to all internal and external stakeholders of the Endowment and DAF is essential to success. The Manager of Investments will supervise a team with functional responsibilities for investment accounting and operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

  • Oversee all operational and accounting matters related to the Endowment and DAF investments
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the timeliness and accuracy of the department’s investment functions
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting and reporting for DAF and Endowment. Review quarterly client statements to identify and correct errors and create strategies to minimize or eliminate future errors
  • Review and approve all journal entries related to investment, contribution, and grant-making activities and analyze their impact on the general ledger
  • Work in conjunction with the Controller on the monthly and quarterly closing of the consolidated general ledger. Responsible for annual audit packages, including leadsheets and reconciliations of all accounts related to DAF and Endowment investments and related. Assist in the productions of consolidated financial statements
  • Analyze all balance sheet accounts held in the Endowment and DAF pools. Develop strategies to ensure the accurate recording of all activity related to the DAFs and Endowment
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of external contractors, as appropriate. Establish monthly and quarterly workplans to ensure timely reporting. Ensure the accuracy of reports to The Federation’s clients
  • Review monthly changes to DAF Pools, including rebalancing reconciliations, journal entries, and reports
  • Review all grant payments and wire requests
  • Liaison with investment managers, donors, and third-party service providers
  • Execute all investments sales, purchases, and transfers as instructed by the Controller or CFIO
  • Monitor investment portfolios to ensure compliance with approved policies and procedures
  • Supervise the work of the Investment Senior Accountant and Investment Staff Accountant. Review reconciliations, journal entries, and reports
  • Work as a member of the finance and accounting team of the Federation to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial activity of the organization
  • Respond to requests for information and carry out special projects as assigned

EDUCATION OR TRAINING EQUIVALENT TO

  • BA/BS in accounting. CPA required
  • Minimum of five years of experience in all aspects of investment and accounting

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, ABILITIES, LICENSE)

  • Experience in not-for-profit financial accounting strongly preferred
  • Ability to develop and implement effective accounting and investment procedures
  • Experience with MicroEdge FIMS platform a plus
  • Managerial experience with demonstrated ability to select, develop, motivate, mentor and retain high performing staff
  • Ability to problem solve and create systems to improve the operations of the finance and accounting areas
