Marin/San Francisco Jewish Teen Foundation Project Director

Reports to Director of Youth Philanthropy

ORGANIZATIONAL VISION, MISSION, AND FUNCTION:

The Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund (the Federation) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties is a philanthropic catalyst, connecting Bay Area Jews – of all ages, backgrounds, and perspectives – to the power we have as a community to improve the world. The Federation is looking for highly motivated and qualified individuals with a variety of skill sets who want to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement. POSITION SUMMARY 

The Jewish Teen Foundation (JTF) Project Director is a full time Federation employee, responsible for running the JTF program in the Marin/San Francisco region. This includes facilitating teen foundation meetings, supporting the teen fundraising and grant making efforts, mentoring and training a group of teen foundation leaders and preparing them to lead teen foundation meetings, and serving as a community liaison between the teen foundation, the Federation, and the Jewish community. The Project Director is also responsible for communication and relationship building with grantees, parents, and other stake holders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Oversee the training and activities of the Teen Foundation Board and ensure that the goals and mission of the Jewish Community Teen Foundation are carried forth. Duties will include:

Programming

  • Marketing, outreach, recruitment, and interviewing of applicants

  • Adapt and implement Tzedakah/philanthropy curriculum model developed by the Director of Youth Philanthropy and enhanced by the Teen Foundation Leadership Council, the Advisory Committee, and fellow Project Director

  • Convene all meetings of the Teen Foundation Board, including leadership council meetings

  • Staff the Regional Teen Philanthropy Training Retreat, working closely with your leadership council members to prepare them for leading activities at the retreat

  • Assist in the curriculum building and booking of special guest speakers throughout the year

  • Oversee any other youth-related activities that may be initiated by the foundation (special recognition events, leadership conferences, volunteer days, fundraisers, etc.)

Administrative

  • Attend weekly meetings with the Director of Youth Philanthropy for the Federation along with other Bay Area JTF Program Directors to coordinate programs and keep abreast of regional and national opportunities for teens in the field
  • Communicate regularly with JTF members, their parents, and grant applicant organizations. Coordinate with regional JTF office to create and disseminate grant related communications and mailings
  • Meet bi-weekly with teen board leadership council members to plan upcoming meeting’s agendas and logistics and to further the work of the teen foundation
  • Coordinate logistics for all board meetings and events
  • Work with members to collect necessary evaluation data and compile reports to the funders through the Federation, to the Federation Board, and to other funders, etc.
  • Help the teens to identify nonprofits working in the field of interest that are Jewish and non-Jewish, local and international
  • Co-facilitate the grants process: work with agencies and/or individual youth advocates to craft appropriate proposals

Jewish Teen Foundations Revisioning

  • Participate in the JTF Revisioning process with the Director of Youth Philanthropy and other Bay Area Teen Foundation Program Directors, including attending meetings and completing projects and assignments on deadline.

EDUCATION OR TRAINING EQUIVALENT TO

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution
  • Master’s degree desirable

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, ABILITIES, LICENSE)

  • Experience in the nonprofit arena, as a communal service professional, a youth director, agency executive and/or teacher
  • Management and program events planning experience is desirable
  • Knowledge of the local Jewish community is desirable
  • S/he should have excellent communication skills with both teens and adults and be able to serve as the liaison between the youth foundation members and Jewish community professionals
  • Well-rounded knowledge of philanthropy and service and how the process works, including strategic grantmaking, needs assessment, fundraising, allocation of funds and evaluation
  • Knowledge of Jewish textual and ethical underpinnings of philanthropy: Tzedakah, Gemilut Hasidim, Tikkun Olam, Maimonides Hierarchy of Giving, etc.
  • Solid administrative ability, such as good time management and organizational skills; including accurate and timely preparation of reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative, innovative, flexible and patient
  • Able to work in partnership with funding sources as deemed applicable
  • Able to work as part of a larger team of professionals doing the work throughout the area
  • Familiarity working with foundations and other funding sources a plus
