Urban gardening experience for young adults

Join the JCCSF in collaboration with Serve the Moment and the Portola Garden Club for an in-person volunteer opportunity that will strengthen our ecosystem and our community. Together, we will mulch, plant and beautify by starting the foundation of a garden for native vegetation and nectar producing plants. This garden will provide food to local pollinators such as the Orchard Mason Bee. The Orchard Mason Bee is incredibly efficient at pollinating native crops and fruit trees. Their hard work helps to plant, grow and produce food – keeping the cycle of life turning.

JCCSF and the Portola Garden Club have safety at the top our minds for this in-person event. Volunteers must wear a mask and maintain social distance throughout the entire experience. Participants should bring their own garden gloves, dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes.

Serve the Moment powered by Repair the World envisions a world filled with compassion, where everyone has what they need in order to thrive. The pandemic has disproportionately impacted our cities’ most vulnerable residents and the time to serve is now. Driven by Jewish values, together we will engage in critical racial justice work, tackle food insecurity, strengthen our education system, and combat social isolation.

Portola Garden Club (PGC) was formed to further the development of gardening and greening projects, advocacy, and community building and resiliency for our environs. The PGC seeks to foster Portola community engagement and ensure there is a continuous influx of neighborhood volunteers who come together to steward the neighborhood’s communal green spaces for many years to come.

This program is supported by a grant from Taube Philanthropies, Rodan Family Foundation and the Libitzky Family Foundation and its philanthropic partnership initiative, “Strengthening Jewish Engagement for Bay Area Young Adults”.

Activities connected to this event are supported in part by the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment's Young Adult Peer Connector Program.
