Earth Day: Death Over Expression

Grief around climate change is powerful: the loss of biodiversity, the new normal of "fire season," the rising sea levels. This virtual gathering will provide a meaningful pause for people of all backgrounds to reflect on what we have lost recently as well as what we have gained, through guided meditation led by Dorothy Richman and mandala art facilitated by Ava Sayaka Rosen.

Why death over expression?

Death Over Expression, brought to you by Reboot, is the arts version of Death Over Dinner, a one-of-a-kind project that helps people talk about the difficult topic of death in the warm gathering space of a dinner table. This isn't meant to be a depressing conversation, but rather we’ll explore this taboo topic together in community, in a way that’s life-affirming. We hope you’ll leave feeling even more connected to yourselves and to one another.

Death Over Expression is a space for reflection, processing, and creative exploration. While we welcome difficult conversations, we are not mental health professionals. If you are looking for grief support or crisis counseling, please let us know and we will connect you with resources specifically tailored to those needs.

Suggested supplies for mandala making:

- Flowers, leaves, stones, seed pods, sticks, or other natural ephemera (or any small-ish objects) - about 20-30 pieces

- Scissors or shears

- Broom and dustpan

- Floorspace (a table or a wind-protected ground outside will work too!)
