The Story of the Terezin Composers
Hours of Freedom is a concert-drama created by conductor Murry Sidlin. It showcases music by 15 composers imprisoned in Terezín during WWII, using a combination of video, performance and narrative. The event is part of the Jewish Music Series, now in its seventh year at Sonoma State University.
A concert-drama created by conductor Murry Sidlin showcasing music by 15 composers imprisoned in Terezín during WWII, combines video, performance and narrative. Aware that their lives were fragile, Hours of Freedom explores those composers’ need to create new music as affirmation of a future.
Sidlin will be in residence at Sonoma State prior to the September 15 concert. He will conduct the performance orchestra comprised of faculty and student musicians.
The performance is part of the Jewish Studies Program class entitled Survey of Jewish Music, and therefore there is no admission charge. The daily parking fee is $5.
