Not Bad for Delancey Street: The Rise of Billy Rose is the biography of a producer, World’s Fair impresario, songwriter, nightclub and theater owner, syndicated columnist, art collector, ruthless negotiator, and philanthropist who combined a love for his lucrative American moment with grandiose plans to aid his fellow Jews. Billy Rose was an exaggerated exemplar of the American Jewish experience that predominated after World War II: secular, intermarried, bent on financial success, in love with Israel, and wedded to America.

Mark Cohen is a writer and speaker specializing in the Jewish American scene, from the novels of Saul Bellow to the pop culture comedy of Allan Sherman. His articles have appeared in the Forward, Los Angeles Times, Daily News, and Newsday, as well as scholarly publications such as American Jewish History, Saul Bellow Journal, and History of
Photography. Cohen is a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
