RAISE THE ROOF with Habitat for Humanity! - CANCELLED DUE TO POWER SHUTOFFS

Day of Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Sonoma County

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO POWER SHUTOFFS

When wildfires ravaged Sonoma and Napa Counties in October of 2017, the Jewish community throughout the region deployed volunteers to support our North Bay neighbors. This fall, we invite you to return for a day of service, building homes with Habitat for Humanity. The staggering loss of 6,000 homes, many in fragile neighborhoods, will forever link Habitat For Humanity’s mission of affordable housing for all, to wildfire/disaster recovery. Join us for a meaningful 8th day of tikkun olam in Sonoma County.

Thank you to our partners from Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, Osher Marin Jewish Community Center, and Peninsula Sinai Temple for this fun service date.  Registration is required to participate.  Our volunteer date is:

Sunday, October 27 at The Habitat Center in Rohnert Park, from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm

A delicious lunch and beverage will be provided to all participants.

THERE ARE TWO STEPS TO THE PROCESS:

Step 1. Fill in the Habitat SoCo Volunteer Application and Waiver (Link). This custom link will automatically register you for our group service date on October 27th. When you enter your email address into its field, you will receive an email confirmation with a verification code. Please copy this code and paste it into volunteer application box at the bottom, and submit your form.

Once you submit your application electronically, you will receive an email confirmation. You will also receive a reminder email on the Friday before the day of service.

Step 2. Please read the Safety Guidelines. Print the last page, sign it, and bring only the last page with you on your day of service.

The Habitat Center is Habitat's new manufacturing facility and trades-training center. Volunteer groups will assist with one of two projects – 1) Building wall panels for construction of factory, training areas, offices and meeting rooms,  or 2) building fence panels for installation at Habitat home sites in Sonoma County. Tasks may include measuring, cutting, organizing and fastening fencing and wall panel components for installation at Habitat builds.

No previous construction experience is necessary. Habitat will provide all the tools, training, and safety equipment needed to work on any of their sites. Individuals are welcome to sign up for a day of physical work. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age to be on a job site (Minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Certain tool restrictions may apply for minors). Volunteers must be able to lift 20 pounds.

For your comfort, the following items are highly recommended:

  • Work gloves are provided. You may opt to bring your own.
  • Water bottle. A cold water station is on site.
  • A hat and sunscreen
  • Construction site appropriate clothing (long sleeves and pants)
  • Closed toed, closed heeled footwear (required)

"Thank you for creating such a fun and gratifying volunteer experience. I loved working with Habitat For Humanity and being able to spend the day with kind, generous people. This was a Sunday well spent!"

"It was an all-around satisfying way to give back to the community and connect with other Jewish members of the community. When's the next one? Loved it."
