The Federation Announces New Board Leadership

San Francisco, CA – The Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties is pleased to announce Jim Heeger’s appointment as Board Chair, effective July 1, 2018.

Heeger has a history of distinguished contributions to the Federation, acting as its past Executive Committee Treasurer and co-leading the CEO search. As Board Chair, he is currently leading a significant review of the Federation’s strategy, which succeeds the findings of the Federation’s recent community study, A Portrait of Bay Area Jewish Life and Communities.

“Armed with the results of the recent Portrait and the strong staff that Danny has pulled together over the last couple of years, this is the right time for the Federation to take a serious look at its strategic direction and plot a new course for the future,” says Heeger. “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to lead this board at this critical juncture.”

Actively involved in the Bay Area Jewish community as well as nationally and globally, Heeger serves as Board Chair of Moishe House, Vice Chair of the Foundation for Jewish Camp, and is a board member of the Jewish Federations of North America and the Jewish Funders Network. He is a past president of Hillel at Stanford and Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, and Senior Vice-chair of the World Union for Progressive Judaism.

“We’re so fortunate to have Jim stepping to the helm,” said Federation CEO Danny Grossman. “Jim is a great strategic thinker whose skills are ideally suited to the dynamic changes we seek to continue implementing. Jim is deeply experienced as a Board Chair and brings the added benefit of his knowledge of the national and global Jewish communities.”

Over his thirty-year career in Silicon Valley, Heeger specialized in growing emerging businesses into industry leaders, serving as CEO of Fotiva, PayCycle, and GreenRoad Technologies. He also held a number of senior management positions at Hewlett-Packard, Intuit, and Adobe. He received a BS in Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Jim lives in Palo Alto with his wife Daryl Messinger, who is equally active within the Jewish community and they have two sons who live and work in Silicon Valley.
