Reports to Manager of Investment (Endowment and DAF)

POSITION SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the Manager of Investments, the Staff Accountant will play an integral role in the Donor Advised Funds and Endowment Accounting team, performing month-end close, preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, and assisting with the annual audit related to the Jewish Community Federation invested assets.

The Staff Accountant will provide support in both internal and external reporting processes, coordinate capital calls, and maintain up-to-date and accurate records for several investment vehicles. They will be responsible for providing administrative support for the Investment Team and maintaining interaction with third-party service providers and investment managers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Administration:

  • Maintain organized and thorough files (routinely scanning and saving documents) to support investment transactions and accounting records for quarterly financial statements.
  • Scan and Organize Investment Capital Statements, Reports, Tax documents, Correspondences, etc.
  • Monitor, organize and disburse incoming e-mails to centralized accounts.
  • Assist in facilitating investments including the preparation of documents, manager, and custodial letters.
  • Coordinate information flow with third-party service providers.

Finance and Accounting:

  • Prepare daily cash deposits.
  • Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly bank accounts reconciliations and timely research of variances or unusual transactions.
  • Assist in the month-end close, preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and the annual audit.
  • Update monthly and quarterly investment valuations for Donor Advised Fund and Endowment investments.
  • Prepare routine accounting entries for investments and other operating activities.
  • Assist in monitoring and following up on any accounting issues and coordinate with the JCF tax preparer.
  • Respond to requests for information and carry out special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as required.

EDUCATION OR TRAINING EQUIVALENT 

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
  • Minimum of one to three years of accounting experience

QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, ABILITIES, LICENSES)

  • Experience in not-for-profit financial accounting and fund accounting strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of investment accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong and effective communication skills to deal directly with vendors and all levels of staff and management.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with MicroEdge FIMS platform a plus.
  • Technical skills and experience in financial reporting, consolidation and investment accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task to balance multiple requests without losing sight of overall objectives and deadlines.
