Tides Center - Shalom Bayit

Background

Shalom Bayit is seeking to expand its leadership capacity to support the agency's growing structure and programs. Our Board of Directors is seeking two to three candidates for our five member, all-women Board this year. This is a hands-on opportunity to serve as a leadership voice for Jewish women, and to promote peace by engaging the Jewish community in conversations about healthy, respectful relationships. As an agency focused on women's empowerment and leadership, we are an all women Board.

We are looking for candidates with skills/experience in any of the following areas: fundraising, organizational development, strategic planning, marketing/PR, personal or professional experience related to our work, and/or the ability to foster Jewish communal connections to advance our work. We are especially seeking candidates from the Peninsula, Marin and East Bay and welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds (socio-economic, age, sexual orientation, (dis)ability) and with a variety of Jewish experiences and affiliations. We encourage survivors of domestic violence to step into leadership positions.

Before being appointed a Board members, candidates are asked to serve on a committee (e.g. fundraising, events, personnel, programs) or assist in another substantive volunteer capacity. Board members also serve on committees and in other leadership roles related to: fundraising, corporate support, events, personnel, governance and leadership development. Board terms are three years.

If you enjoy working in a close-knit, consensus-driven, social-justice focused, small organization with a big impact -- this opportunity is for you!

Logistics

Time Commitment and Meetings: Board members attend monthly meetings (held on the 3rd Wednesday evening of the month, rotating Bay Area locations), plus one annual all-day retreat and participation in Committee work.

Project Results

With a continual increasing demand for Shalom Bayit's services and community presence, we do not have the capacity to do the fundraising and community development work necessary to advance the organization. The addition of new board members would be a significant help in growing the agency's capacity and community presence.

Organization Description

Shalom Bayit, located in Oakland, is the Bay Area's hub for catalyzing the social change and community response necessary to eradicate domestic violence in the Jewish community. We empower women, teens and families to build safe, healthy relationships and create peace in the place that matters most -- at home.

Required Skills/Experience

We are looking for candidates with skills/experience in any of the following areas: fundraising, organizational development/HR, business or nonprofit management, strategic planning, marketing/PR, personal or professional experience related to our work, and/or the ability to foster Jewish communal connections to advance our work.
