Institute for Curriculum Services (ICS)

Background

Through its work with publishers, communities, and educators, the Institute for Curriculum Services (ICS) is improving the quality of instructional materials and instruction nationwide.  To  ensure long-term viability, while meeting a growing demand for its unique and essential services, ICS is significantly expanding its leadership nationwide and creating a National Advisory Council. The founding National Advisory Council will draw on its members' leadership experience, professional and avocational expertise, and financial support to significantly advance ICS's strategic vision and goals. Recruitment for this body is ongoing.

ICS is a joint initiative of the San Francisco-based Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.  As an independently funded initiative of the JCRC, the board of JCRC has fiduciary responsibility for ICS.

Scope & Deliverables

ICS is looking for a consultant who can advise the director on: 1) written communications with council members; 2) crafting a dynamic agenda for ICS's first council meeting to take place in fall 2016; 3) facilitating  the day long meeting and/or recommendations for great facilitators; and 4) board/council development to ensure a positive and professional experience for members and tangible results for ICS.

Project Results

This is the first lay body dedicated solely to ICS.  This engagement will enhance ICS knowledge and skills related to lay engagement and development. ICS wants its members to be engaged and to be enthusiastic champions of our work.  Ensuring a high quality experience will be essential to those outcomes.

Organization Description

The Institute for Curriculum Services headquartered in San Francisco promotes accurate instruction and instructional materials on Jews, Judaism, and Israel for American K-12 students.  ICS develops curricular resources and offers professional development to public school educators and works with publishers and education officials to improve the accuracy of instructional materials like textbooks.  ICS has improved the quality of public education for over 9 million students, and the number continues to grow each year.
