Scope & Deliverables

Hillel of Chico’s Executive Director seeks training in fiscal management, budgeting and reporting as well as guidance on how to set up budgeting and reporting systems for this small, but vibrant nonprofit.  Financial management is a new area of responsibility for the new full-time Executive Director.  The organization currently uses Quickbooks Pro 2013. Its revenue and expenses are straightforward; it has has a budget of $65,000 and needs to build up reserves.

Tasks and deliverables:

  1. Train Executive Director on the budgeting process, e.g. how to develop a budget and report against it.
  2. Develop and advise Executive Director on how to use financial management tools including:
    • spreadsheets designed for budgeting as well as monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
    • a budget structure and detail compatible with general ledger.
  3. Train Executive Director on aligning a budget with an accounting system.

Project Results

This engagement will help the Executive Director to gain skills and confidence in understanding how to financially run a non-profit organization. With this increased understanding of profit/loss funding, she will be a stronger advocate when seeking private donors, creating savings plan for the future and providing high quality programming for campus life.

Our organization will be better equipped to make an impact by offering quality programs to constituents while having a greater understanding of business, finance and operations.
