Marketing and Alumni Engagement Assistant, Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards

This position reports to the Program Director, Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards

ORGANIZATIONAL VISION, MISSION, AND FUNCTION:

The Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards (TOA) annually recognizes and awards up to 15 exceptional Jewish teens from California and across the United States for outstanding volunteer tikkun olam leadership. Each recipient is awarded $36,000 to further their Tikkun Olam project or to help pay for their education.

Key aspects of the Awards program include promoting and processing nominations and applications, ongoing engagement with past recipients, managing the committee evaluation process, and planning the annual Awards events.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Marketing and Alumni Engagement Assistant will be responsible for developing and managing relationships in service of promoting nominations, applications, and the Awards program in general. Additionally, the person will aim to leverage and support Awards alumni, and collaborate on the day-to-day operation of the Awards program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Outreach:

  • Further develop and add to list of private and public high schools and key contacts at them to connect and engage with, for the purpose of nominations and applications development
  • Develop and maintain active relationships with Jewish professionals, Jewish culture clubs, educators, etc., through: person-to-person networking, in-person meetings, phone-calls, participation in conferences, online research, etc. with the goal of encouraging nominations
  • Conduct a thorough review and update of the current nationwide contact list (phone, mail and email addresses), identifying key staff at each included institution and developing relationships with them to encourage nominations and applications

Marketing:

  • Contribute to and implement a marketing strategy for sustaining and increasing the number, quality, and diversity (geographic, socioeconomic, gender, level of Jewish engagement, etc.) of Award nominees/applicants
  • Oversee social media planning and execution, including Facebook, Twitter, and the Awards website
  • Collaborate on development of programs and/or resources to support the ongoing work of non-recipient applicants and encourage their re-application in subsequent years.

Alumni:

  • Develop and implement plan to activate past Award recipients as “TOA ambassadors” to do peer-to-peer marketing and public speaking on behalf of TOA, particularly targeted at bolstering nominations and applications
  • Engage and activate the community of 70+ Award recipient alumni, working to support their interests in networking, tikkun olam, and Jewish life.
  • Collaborate on developing the annual Awards Weekend program for recipients and alumni

Administrative:

  • Provide general administrative support to Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards Program Director throughout all annual phases of program, including coordination of annual Awards weekend
  • Perform due diligence investigation/vetting of a subset of award applicants to help clarify veracity and details of their projects
  • Supervise summer intern(s) and/or temporary assistants (on an as needed basis)

EDUCATION OR TRAINING EQUIVALENT TO:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required,

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, ABILITIES, LICENSE):

  • Experience managing social media campaigns and online presence
  • Sophisticated web-based research skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Creativity when pursuing projects, problem solving, and engaging in new initiatives
  • Strong organizational skills including ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, and operate with flexibility
  • Ability to both collaborate and work independently in a friendly, supportive environment
  • Close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong computer skills including all applications in MS Office Suite; Salesforce experience desired; WordPress, HTML and Raiser’s Edge a plus
  • Working knowledge of Judaism and the Jewish traditions preferred
