Welcome, 2015 Summer Interns!
Each summer, the Federation welcomes a handful of interns to our office in San Francisco. These high school and college students join us for 8 weeks, and come to us through two programs – Achieve and the Kohn Summer Internship Program.
Achieve is a year-round scholarship program that provides select high school students with extensive academic support, mentoring, summer internships, cultural and community service activities, and college counseling. The program’s goal is for all Achieve students to go on to college, graduate, and become successful citizens who will give back to the community.
The Kohn Summer Internship Program, a project of Jewish Vocational Service (JVS), is a unique 8-week program that provides Jewish college undergraduates the opportunity to work for a Jewish nonprofit organization, build professional skills through JVS workshops, be mentored by Jewish community leaders, examine issues facing the Jewish community, and of course, make lifelong friendships with other interns.
This summer, we are lucky to have 5 interns working in the following areas:
Aaron Cahen is interning in the Leadership Development department this summer. He just finished his sophomore year at the University of Michigan, where he is very involved in student government and leadership. Earlier this summer, Aaron interned for Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA) in Washington, D.C. He found out about the Kohn Internship Program through multiple friends who participated in it, and now he is looking forward to having an exciting and rewarding summer at the Federation.
Alicia Lopez is interning in the Young Adult Division, where she will be working with the teen foundations. Alicia is attending Mercy High School in San Francisco where she will be a senior this fall. She learned of this internship program through the Achieve Program. In her free time, Alicia plays the guitar and sings, along with playing softball for her school. She is very happy to be interning here because she knows that her work will help make a difference.
Domenic Marchese is interning in the Marketing department this summer. He currently attends Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, and will be starting his junior year this fall. Domenic found out about the internship opportunity through the Achieve Program. In his spare time, he plays baseball for his high school and enjoys spending time with his friends. Domenic is very excited to learn more about marketing this summer, along with helping the Federation serve the community.
Eva Gellman will be working with the Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards. She has just finished her freshman year at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Eva found out about the Kohn Internship Program through her father, who is very active in the Jewish community. She is a native of Los Angeles, and enjoys exploring her new home of San Francisco. Eva is also very excited to be working here and is looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Jesse Boss will be working with Women’s Philanthropy in the Development department. She is currently attending Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where she just finished her freshman year. She plans on studying sociology but, like most young college students, that is subject to change. Jesse is a San Francisco native, growing up in the Bernal Heights district. In her spare time, she enjoys activities such as sewing, crocheting, aerial acrobatics, and spending time outdoors. Jesse can’t wait to help make a difference during her internship at the Federation.
