Experience Passion - The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus Spring Concert

Join the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus as they present on Wednesday and Thursday, April 1 and 2, 8 p.m. at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall, Jake Heggie’s choral opera For a Look or a Touch, a true love story of two Jewish men who were persecuted by the Nazis for being homosexual.  Under the direction of Dr. Timothy Seelig, members of the Chorus will be joined by acclaimed actor Kip Niven as Gad Beck (a survivor who became a Jewish resistance fighter and later rescued over 1000 Jews from death) and by world renown baritone Morgan Smith as Beck's doomed lover, Manfred Lewin.  The opera imagines how Gad, now an old man, dreams of his Nazi-murdered lover reappearing in a dream and of the poignant, sometimes funny conversations between them as they recall their love and their lives together, both the joys and the horrors.

The 250 voices of SFGMC will present the Bay Area premiere of Heggie’s masterpiece as a part of Passion, their spring concert also featuring two incredible world premieres: My Friend, My Lover: Five Walt Whitman Songs from Whitman’s brilliant and subversive works of the 1800s, and #twitterleider: 15 Tweets in 3 Acts by composer James Eakin and librettist Charles Anthony Silvestri. Together with the love story of For a Look or a Touch, this spring concert is a true celebration of life and love as told over three centuries.

Experience Passion.
