Neal Katyal

Neal Katyal is one of the most celebrated legal minds in America. He has argued more than 50 cases before the Supreme Court of the United States — breaking the record of Thurgood Marshall as the only minority attorney in history to do so — and served as Acting Solicitor General of the United States, the federal government’s top courtroom lawyer. A professor at Georgetown University Law Center and one of the youngest faculty members in its history to receive tenure, he has dedicated his career to democracy, justice, and the rule of law.

Beyond the courtroom, Neal is a gifted storyteller and public voice. His TED Talk, How To Win An Argument (At The US Supreme Court, or Anywhere), has surpassed 2 million views, and he is a frequent contributor to MSNBC and the New York Times

A former legal affairs editor of The New Republic and staff writer for The New Yorker, he has spent his career making America’s founding ideas accessible, urgent, and alive for new generations.

His most recent book, Pursuit of Liberty: How Hamilton vs. Jefferson Ignited the Lasting Battle over Power in America, was published in October 2025. He is also the author of several New York Times bestsellers, including Conversations with RBG: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Life, Love, Liberty, and Law and The Pursuit of Happiness, as well as biographies of Louis Brandeis and William Howard Taft.
