The Jewish Pride Fund (JPF), a giving circle of the Federation, is open to all members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. JPF comprised of successful professionals, established mentors, proud Jews, and engaged members who want to amplify their voice for social change by collectively investing in nonprofit organizations that support the LGBTQIA+ community. As one of the few LGBTQIA+-focused giving circles in the nation, members help voice and shape the direction of the Fund based on this community’s unique goals and values.

JPF has been working under the leadership of Chair Kyle Levine and since 2023 has grown to include 30 donors. As of June 2025, JPF has granted $329,815.

Along with philanthropy focused on supporting the intersecting needs, values, and interests of the LGBTQIA+ and Jewish communities in the Bay Area, nationally and in Israel, activities have expanded to include issue area education, guest speakers, Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, a closing party celebration, and volunteering opportunities.

Mission

The Fund is committed to supporting the intersecting needs, values, and interests of the LGBTQIA+ and Jewish communities in the Bay Area and in Israel.

Vision

To create a world where LGBTQIA+ voices are heard across Jewish, secular, and religious societies. We believe that if we empower LGBTQIA+ individuals and families that identify with the Jewish community, we contribute to the rising power and agency of the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole. We believe that members of the Jewish LGBTQIA+ community have a unique role to play in civil rights, social justice, and religious inclusion.

Background

The Jewish Federation, Bay Area was the first federation to pioneer an LGBTQ Alliance and continues to support and welcome the LGBTQIA+ Jewish community as a central part of the wider Bay Area Jewish community.

FAQs

The Fund meets 8 to 9 times between October and June in San Francisco. The grant meetings are held at The Federation in San Francisco.

Four grant meetings consist of working, eating, learning, and networking. There are two additional days where we hold up to 90 minutes each of virtual interviews with finalist applicants.

The remaining dates are for optional social and educational events related to grantmaking, current events, or areas of interest for the group. Often these are hosted in a group member’s home.

The minimum contribution is $1,800 from each member. For members under 30, the minimum contribution is $900.

Over half of the JPF grants go to LGBTQIA+ organizations in Israel.  We also make grants to BAY Area initiatives or organizations, and sometimes to national-serving organizations.

Donors can contribute to the JPF grant pool without participating in the giving circle activities. This is a great option for community members who want to contribute to the impact of the JPF but might not be able to commit to a full cycle. Donors to the JPF grant pool can also elect to receive invitations to the giving circle’s social and educational events.
