Some experiences don’t just teach you history; they immerse you in it.
This February 28-March 2, 2027, the Federation invites you to join us on the Civil Rights Journey, a three-day immersive trip through Atlanta, Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham — the very ground where one of America’s most pivotal chapters unfolded. Led by an experienced and knowledgeable guide, participants will explore the African American struggle for civil rights and racial equality during the 1950s and 1960s, including the significant contributions and solidarity of Jewish Americans within the broader Civil Rights Movement.

WHAT AWAITS YOU:
Atlanta, GA — We begin where it all started, walking the neighborhood where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born, preached, and is laid to rest. We’ll attend Sunday services at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, where three generations of the King family shaped a movement.
Montgomery, AL — Stand at the Equal Justice Initiative’s Memorial to Peace & Justice — the nation’s first memorial dedicated to victims of lynching — and walk through the Legacy Museum’s journey from slavery to mass incarceration. Visit the Rosa Parks Museum and stand on the very spot where the Civil Rights Movement began.
Selma, AL — Cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the footsteps of the marchers who changed history. Hear firsthand from someone who was there on Bloody Sunday — at just 11 years old. Learn about Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and the profound Jewish role in the struggle for civil rights.
Birmingham, AL — Meet the “Fifth Little Girl” who survived the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. See Kelly Ingram Park, where fire hoses and attack dogs met nonviolent courage. Explore the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Temple Beth El for an immersive experience. We will hear stories by historians, religious leaders, and congregants as you explore the lives of Jewish community members who navigated one of the most challenging moments in American history.
This journey is for anyone who believes that understanding the past is essential to building a better future — and that witness is an act of justice.
Spots are limited to the first 30 participants, so sign up today.
