Jewish Federation Bay Area Announces Rudy Granados as Managing Director of Community Security

Seasoned law enforcement officer, hostage negotiator to lead the Federation’s Community Security Program

[San Francisco, CA] – The Jewish Federation Bay Area announced that, following an extensive national search, Rudy Granados has been promoted to Managing Director of Community Security, effective August 1, 2026.

In this newly elevated position, Granados will lead the Federation’s expanded comprehensive security strategy, including strengthening preparedness and incident response efforts, broadening emergency resilience, assessing threat intelligence, grant and financial support, and continuing to partner with local, state, and federal law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of Bay Area Jewish institutions and community members.

Granados joined the Federation in 2025 as Senior Manager of Community Security and brings nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience, spanning roles as a hostage and crisis negotiator, threat analyst, defensive tactics and force options instructor, field training officer, and school resource officer.

“I’m honored to take on this role and continue the vital work of keeping Northern California’s Jewish community safe,” said Granados. “My experience in law enforcement and crisis negotiation has taught me that effective security begins with listening, preparation, and developing relationships. I bring that same mindset to community security work and prioritize building trust at both the organizational and individual community member level.”

Under Granados, the Community Security team has already deepened its partnerships with law enforcement and government agencies, supporting multiple facets of the program from grant funding and partnerships to planned events and incident responses. The team is also growing to include members with different specialty focus areas — an effort that will shorten response times and increase the number and types of training available to the community.

With the High Holidays approaching, Granados encourages Jewish organizations to prepare by training staff and volunteers to spot potential threats, brief attendees on security measures, coordinate early with law enforcement for increased patrols, and share any concerns with the Federation’s Community Security team.

The team will be hosting a High Holidays security webinar in September, offering additional guidance and support for Jewish organizations, institutions, and community members.
