Racial Justice & Equity Giving Opportunities

Our historic communal experiences with forms of systemic oppression, leveled against us as antisemitism, encourage us to stand up against racism and bigotry in all its forms.

The Jewish journey towards inclusion should also acknowledge and lift up the voices of Jews of Color, many of whom have been marginalized both within the Jewish community and by broader society. Our Jewish values such as loving kindness (chesed), justice (tzedek), and repairing the world (tikkun olam) serve as a guide to take action.

The organizations listed below address different aspects of these important issues within the Jewish community and beyond and have been vetted by our team.

Jews of Color Initiative

The Jews of Color Initiative is a national effort focused on building and advancing the professional, organizational and communal field for Jews of Color. The Initiative supports Jews of Color by focusing on grantmaking, research and field building, and community education. This is a fiscally-sponsored project of the Tides Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Bail Project

The Bail Project National Revolving Bail Fund is a critical tool to combat racial and economic disparities in the bail system. The Bail Project provides free bail assistance and pretrial support to low-income people. Because bail is returned at the end of a case, donations can be recycled and reused to pay bail two to three times per year.

California Black Freedom Fund

California Black Freedom Fund supports Black-led organizations working to eradicate systemic and institutional racism in California by creating a new statewide ecosystem led by grassroots advocates and community leaders.  The Silicon Valley Community Foundation is providing administrative and fiscal management for the California Black Freedom Fund.

Ella Baker Center for Human Rights

Ella Baker Center works locally, statewide, and nationally to shift resources away from prisons and punishment and towards opportunities that make communities safe, healthy, and strong. EBC engages the policy work around public safety to focus less on punishment, and more on living wage jobs, affordable childcare, healthcare, and housing.

Be'Chol Lashon

Be’chol Lashon (Hebrew for “in every language”) strengthens Jewish identity by raising awareness about the ethnic, racial, and cultural diversity of Jewish identity and experience. Be’Chol Lashon brings the historic Jewish commitment to civil rights and racial justice forward into the 21st century with trainings, research, camps, and travel.

Racial Justice and Equity Initiative

With the Federation's vast network, we're positioned to help cultivate and support JOC leadership and belonging in Bay Area Jewish life. Funding enables Jewish organizations to have racially diverse boards and professional teams, and more leadership by Jews of Color. This initiative is a fiscally-sponsored project of the Federation.

Black Vision Fund

The Black Vision Fund offers Black-owned businesses equitable access to capital and expertise to help build long-term business success and wealth in Black communities.  By scaling capital supply for business expansion, the Black Vision Fund facilitates lasting wealth and quality job creation.
