Overnight Camp Scholarships and Grants

Camp is a transformative experience in the life of a child

Think camp is out of reach? Think again! The Federation provides incentive grants and need-based scholarships for Jewish children to attend Jewish overnight summer camp in the United States, Canada, Israel, and in Jewish communities overseas.

One Happy Camper Grant

One Happy Camper is not a scholarship; it is an incentive that provides need-blind grants of up to $1,000 to families with children attending nonprofit, mission-driven Jewish overnight camp for the first time.

Grants are available to first-time campers who:

  • Live in the Federation's service area.
  • Attend at least 12 days of Jewish overnight camp.
  • Have not previously attended Jewish overnight camp for more than 11 nights.

Funds are limited and will be awarded on a rolling basis. Due to funding restrictions, children living in Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa and Solano Counties who attend Jewish day school are not eligible. Why is that?

One Happy Camper is a program of the Federation in partnership with the Foundation for Jewish Camp and Jewish overnight camps across North America.

Overnight Camp Scholarships

Northern California is blessed with a diversity of Jewish overnight camps, each one with its own unique flavor and offerings. Visit the Camp Collective hub to learn more about each of our six camps and the resources available to help make camp a reality.

The Federation’s overnight camp scholarship funding goes directly to the six Northern California camps to pool with their own scholarship dollars. Contact your camp to apply for financial assistance, or for first-time campers, check out One Happy Camper for information about incentive grants up to $1,000. The Federation no longer provides individual scholarships for camps outside the region – contact your camp directly to inquire about financial assistance.

Bay Area Israeli families (with at least one Israeli parent)

Get up to $2,000 for your child to try Jewish overnight camp for the first time at any of our six Northern California camps for up to three weeks. Contact your camp of choice to apply!

Scholarship funds are provided with support from the Albert and Janet Schultz Overnight Campership Fund, the Bentkowsky Campership Fund, the Bernard Hurwitz and Ethel Adler Hurwitz Summer Camperships Fund, the Newhouse Fund, and other generous donors to the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund.

Partial funding for One Happy Camper is provided by the Foundation for Jewish Camps.
