Personal Philanthropy
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, in 2020 the Federation disbursed 11,838 grants from donor-advised funds and supporting foundations, totaling $185,251,210 to 3,097 nonprofit organizations. The number of grants made increased by 18% over 2019, and we attribute this to the significantly greater health and human services needs that quickly arose out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Putting these assets into community reflects the Jewish values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedakah (taking care of the needy), kehillah (community), and tzedek (pursuing justice). These four values underpin and guide our philanthropic work, which supports a wide range of Jewish and broader causes, across local, national and international organizations.
