Enjoying the Justice at the 2009 Hazon Food Conference!

Bay Area LGBT Jews returned full of good food, good conversations and good experiences from the Hazon Food Conference at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, CA.

The Hazon conference hosted Jews from all over the globe to focus on healthy food! For the first time in the conference's history, Bay Area LGBT Jewish volunteer leaders hosted over 40 LGBT and ally conference attendees on the first night of the conference. Sam Goldman, LGBT Alliance Lay Leader, along with long-time Hazon volunteer, Rachel Harris, organized the mixer. Sam said many LGBT Jewish attendees, “could build relationships and make connections that would not only continue during the conference, but also after as well.”

The mixer took place in one of Asilomars warm gathering spaces complete with seasonal beer, a raging fire, and drummers filled the gathering with music. Sam and Rachel look forward to organizing a meeting like this again and hope to have an even larger presence of LGBT Jewish food fans in coming years.

Looking for more ways to incorporate food justice, green living, Jewish holidays and bike riding together with your Bay Area LGBTQ Jewish identity and family? Sam and Rachel would love for you to join them to organize the LGBT 2010 Hazon retreat mixer or learn more about the Bay Area Hazon Ride in May 2010 as well as the upcoming Wilderness Torah retreats for Pesach and Shavuot.
