Richard N. Goldman

San Francisco, Israel, the Jewish community, planet Earth and all who seek to protect it mourn the passing of one of their most generous benefactors, a consummate catalyst and innovator who loved to take a creative idea and pursue it to its ultimate success. Richard was proud of his Jewishness, passionate about Jewish affairs, Jewish studies, the State of Israel , the Federation and its Israel Center.   A former president and board member of the Federation and major donor for the past half-century, he believed in young people and invested in outreach to the next generation, encouraging them to appreciate being Jewish and to participate in their community. Richard loved his native city of San Francisco and he dedicated himself to preserve its quality of life through civic and cultural projects. Richard was an environmentalist before it was fashionable. The Goldman Environmental Prize put environmentalism on the world map and brought environmental awareness to the forefront of our collective conscience. Goodbye, our own “Mr. Blue Eyes,” our mentor, our leader, our friend. May you rest in peace. Your memory shall be a blessing for all times.
