Haiti emergency response - please help
On January 12, 2010, an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter struck Haiti. It hit the capital Port-au-Prince and other areas of the country but was also felt in other countries in the region. The most affected area is Haiti's West Province with a population of 2.2 million. Thousands are presumed dead while tens of thousands are left homeless and injured. Federation is donating $10,000 to IsraAID which consists of 16 (NGO) Non-Governmental Organizations that provide aid to developing countries. During man-made and natural emergencies, IsraAID deploys Israeli experts in emergency medicine, search and rescue, post trauma treatment, logistical and other specialists, offering a variety of experts and programs.
We're asking our Bay Area Jewish community to join us in quickly and effectively responding to this devastating earthquake. With our international network of partners, we provide immediate aid through American Jewish World Service (AJWS), The American Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and Partners in Health, who are already on the ground assisting. All three organizations are in desperate need of your donations. Be assured that your generosity deploys critical dollars where ever tragedy strikes, and secures the Jewish imperative that we do our part - large and small, to make a better world.
Sincerely yours,
Jennifer S. Gorovitz Acting CEO, Jewish Community Federation
