Horrified and Saddened by Murder of Jews in France

We are deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy that took the lives of four people outside the Ozar Hatorah school in Tolouse, France yesterday, March 19.

Eyewitnesses said a lone gunman drove up to the school on a motorbike around 8 a.m. local time, as the students were arriving for the school day, and opened fire using two firearms. The victims have been identified as thirty-year-old Rabbi Jonathan Sandler of Jerusalem, a teacher at the school, his two young sons Aryeh (six) and Gabriel (three), and Miriam Monsonego (eight), the daughter of the school principal. Several students were also injured inside the building during the attack.

The Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties will continue to monitor security arrangements within our community and work with other Jewish Federations across the globe to ensure the security of Jewish communities.

Our heartfelt condolences are with all the families and victims. On behalf of our community, we mourn the loss of innocent lives and stand in solidarity with our Jewish family around the world in condemning acts of hatred.
