Conversation on the Future of Jewish Peoplehood in Israeli Society

The State of Israel as the Nation State of the Jewish People:
At a Crossroads – A Call for New Thinking

The Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund is honored to invite the representatives of fellow Jewish Federations and Foundations in Israel to a shared conversation on the growing gap between Israel and Diaspora Jewry, the place of Jewish peoplehood in Israeli society, and Israel’s domestic challenges.

Within the last decade, the State of Israel’s position in the Jewish world has changed dramatically, in a way that is increasingly becoming a strategic threat to the continued prosperity and cohesion of the Jewish people. This dynamic is fueled by a conceptual gap that exists in Israeli society and raises many questions, including: How should Israel relate to its non-Jewish citizens? How should Israel administer holy sites? How should Israel determine ‘Who is a Jew?’ and more.

In the past several days, we’ve seen a ‘perfect storm’ around the cancellation of the Kotel Compromise. This event is one of many challenges that are currently emerging. Representatives of Jewish Federations and Foundations in Israel must prepare for the future and examine possible actions and responses.

Attendees will participate in:

  • A discussion about the role of philanthropy, the challenges of communal cohesion in the Jewish world, within Israeli society, and between Israeli and diaspora Jews
  • A roundtable discussion on possible responses to the challenge
  • A discussion about the idea of Jewish peoplehood, with Mr. Avraham Infeld
