Mark Gabel
Principal Attorney, Gabel Law Firm, P.C.

Mark represents employees in federal and state court and in arbitration in cases involving discrimination harassment, retaliation, claims for unpaid or underpaid wages, wrongful termination and breach of contract. He also regularly helps employees and independent contractors, especially executives and professionals, understand and protect their rights in the workplace by advising them on a variety of human resources, contract, and executive compensation issues. His background spans the entire range of laws and issues affecting relationships between workers and employers, including traditional labor (union) law.

Before founding Gabel Law Firm, P.C., Mark practiced employment law with two large law firms in San Francisco: Hanson Bridgett LLP, a 150 attorney Northern California firm, where his clients included the University of California, private companies in the health care, technology, and transportation industries, and municipal governments; and Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, a 500 attorney international law firm, where his clients included Verizon Wireless, Comcast, Kaiser Permanente, and Delaware North Companies. His time with these firms and clients gave him training and experience—including an understanding of corporate human resources best practices and decision-making—that still informs his work.

Mark also provides preventative advice and training to employers on a variety of employment law issues, including employment policies, employment contracts, severance agreements, medical and disability leave issues, employee terminations, and employee discipline issues. He brings his years of experience advising large corporate employers to his work with small and medium sized employers, helping them to efficiently understand and implement best practices.

Why employment law? For Mark, it’s personal. As he puts it, “Employment law is about people: their relationships, how they interact, and how to solve problems when things go sideways. People’s careers and businesses are the most important things in their lives other than their families. So I always look at clients not just as cases, but as people, and give them tailored advice that takes into account their personal and professional goals. The opportunity for creativity and the chance to help people makes my work gratifying.”

In his spare time, Mark enjoys spending time with his wife (who is also an employment lawyer), cooking, and rock climbing. He’s an avid fan of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, and plans to retire to write novels one day.
