***POSTPONED** Levi Strauss: A History of American Style

With the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Bay Area, we are committed to doing all we can to preserve the health and safety of our community. To that end, we have made the decision to postpone this event and will update you with a rescheduled date.

The Contemporary Jewish Museum presents an original exhibition showcasing the life of Levi Strauss, the invention of the blue jean, and their iconic place in the history of American style. 

Our tour features over 250 items from the Levi Strauss & Co. archives. Together we will explore: 

• Levi Strauss—a Jewish immigrant, businessman, and philanthropist whose contributions were fundamental to the history of San Francisco. 
• The evolution of Levi Strauss & Co. and it's pivotal role in capturing the expanding mythology of the American West.
• The birth of the blue jean and how it became a symbol of effortless cool for youth, rockers, and revolutionaries alike.

Schedule:

• 1:00 pm - Optional no-host lunch at Wise Sons Deli at the CJM. Arrive early to secure a table. 
• Please arrive by 1:45 pm. Tours start promptly at 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm.
