Origins of Anti-Semitism

Thursdays, 7:30-9pm (8 sessions) Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; Nov. 5, 12, 19 Cost: $65 members/ $90 non-members Couples: $100 members/ $130 non-members Where does antisemitism come from? This class will explore the origins of and major transitions in the development of antisemitism. Topics include: hostility toward Jews in the ancient world, antisemitism in Christian sources, medieval superstitions regarding the Jews, political antisemitism at the time of the French Revolution, and racial antisemitism in Nazi Germany. Participants will consider the persistence of classic antisemitic tropes in contemporary society. Instructor: Rabbi Laurence Elis Milder, Ph.D.
