The Restless Hungarian with Tom Weidlinger

Documentarian Tom Weidlinger combines the screening of a short film with readings from his book, The Restless Hungarian: Modernism, Madness, and the American Dream

Free garage parking on Pierce St between Ellis and Eddy streets.

The revelation of his Jewish identity propels Weidlinger to trace his father’s life and adventures across three continents. The result of this journey is the story of architect-engineer Paul Weidlinger, called “the Wizard” by his colleagues; it spans the rise of Modern architecture, the Holocaust, and the Cold War.

The subjects of Tom Weidlinger's documentary films include World War I, Czechoslovakia following the Velvet Revolution, the life of Native American athlete Jim Thorpe, and the dilemma of humanitarian aid in the Congo. Twenty-five films, which he wrote, produced, and directed, have aired nationally on U.S. public television. The Restless Hungarian is his first book.
