Taking it to the Streets: Celebrate Israel!
Celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day), with snacks, music, crafts, and two very special art workshops that bring the spontaneity of Israeli street art into our JCC! From commemorative posters to public murals, art is a way to celebrate people and events, showing our pride and excitement in a tangible way.
Activities include (see schedule below for specific timing):
- Two Unique street art workshops led by LA based artist, Hillel Smith*
- Artist talk by Hillel Smith on Illuminated Streets, an initiative whose stated mission is “to advance the Jewish contribution to the LA street art scene, increase ties between LA and Israel, and explore expressing Jewish identity through unlikely media.”
- Israeli folk dancing for all
- A special exhibit of vintage Israeli posters
- Tasty Israeli snacks
- A multi-sensory Israeli flag-making station for kids
- Music, dancing and merriment!
- All ages are welcome to celebrate Israel’s birthday!

WORKSHOP COSTS
Family Art Workshop (fee includes all art materials)
$12 Adults / $10 Kids
Younger children (ages 4-8ish, and their adults) will use stencils and shapes to create poster prints of their own. We'll talk about how we can use art in a celebratory way, and how to use simple shapes to build pictures. Then we'll use sponge paint and (Hebrew & Israeli themed) stencils to create our designs.
Teens & Adult Stencil Workshop (fee includes all art materials)
$15
Teens and adults will learn printmaking fundamentals and use their own stencils with spray paint for a fresh, street art-inspired finish. We'll discuss different kinds of celebratory art and examples from Israeli history. We'll also talk about the mechanics of printmaking, using layers and shapes to create bold, dynamic, dimensional designs. Then we'll learn to cut stencils and spray paint them for our own poster celebration.
Tickets to both workshops are available by calling
415-444-8000.
