Why It is Important to Define Antisemitism

IHRA Definition of Antisemitism and The Relevance of its Adoption on College Campuses

In 2016, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), formally adopted the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism.

The (IHRA) is the only intergovernmental organization mandated to focus solely on Holocaust-related issues. IHRA experts determined that in order to begin to address the problem of antisemitism, first it had to be defined. The IHRA definition addresses the multitude of manifestations of antisemitism across the social and political spectrum. For this reason, this is the definition of antisemitism recognized by the majority of the Jewish community worldwide, and by more than 30 national governments.

Jewish students across the country are asking their Student Governments to adopt the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism as an educational tool. While some student governments have adopted IHRA, others have virulently rejected it.
