Yom Kippur Day Services

Join us for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

Jewish Gateways’ services are focused on creating an open environment for participants to connect with Jewish tradition in ways that are personal and meaningful. We encourage questions, present opportunities for learning, and require no previous Jewish experience to attend. Our High Holiday services include both Hebrew and English, and no knowledge of Hebrew is needed.

We welcome all to our inclusive services: wandering Jews, wondering Jews, LGBTQIA+ folks, Jew-ish, interfaith relationships, people of color, singles, couples, families, multiracial relationships, single parents, adult children of interfaith families, Jews by choice, non-Jews, seekers, low-income households, multicultural relationships, cultural Jews, and older adults.

Your registration allows you to attend our in-person services at the JCC East Bay and/or our virtual services.

Please view our Yom Kippur Day schedule below:
10:30 am - 12:30 pm PT - Yom Kippur Morning Service
1:00 - 2:30 pm - Discussion: "Finding Meaning, Community, and Deeper Connections in Judaism." Jewish Gateways community members will share their experiences, followed by questions and open discussion. Led by Rabbi Steph Kennedy and Bridget Wynne. In person only.
4:30 - 5:00 pm PT - Healing service. Our healing service offers a chance to gather with others for song, prayer, and reflection. We draw on Jewish traditions to support us in facing life’s challenges and finding comfort in the presence and support of the community.
5:00 - 5:30 pm PT - Yizkor - Memorial Service. Our memorial service provides space to individually and collectively remember family members and friends who have died.  This service includes prayer, song, silence, and the sharing of names of those we have lost.
5:30 - 6:00 pm PT - Neila - Closing Service. In this final service of the High Holidays, we come together in song and prayer to embrace awe, relief, joy, and gratitude. The service culminates in the last great blast of the shofar, celebrating the chance to begin again in this new year.
