Eileen Ruby to Become Next Board Chair of the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund
San Francisco, CA – On September 29, 2022, the Board of Directors of the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund (the Federation) approved the nomination of Eileen Ruby to serve as the 34th Board Chair. Her appointment will begin on July 1, 2023.
“Eileen Ruby is the right person to serve as the Federation’s next Board Chair at this moment in our strategic evolution,” said Arthur Slepian, current Federation Board Chair.” Eileen is an accomplished leader with a strong track record of successfully guiding organizations through periods of significant change. I look forward to working closely with Eileen over the next nine months to ensure a seamless transition of board leadership.”
Eileen is an accomplished and experienced Jewish leader in the Bay Area, having served as the president of the East Bay Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Foundation of the East Bay, and was one of the leaders who set the groundwork for uniting the East Bay Federation with the San Francisco-based Federation. Eileen has been intensely involved in many key aspects of the Federation’s work, including serving on the board, the Executive Committee, the CEO Search Committee, the Board Nominating Committee, the Endowment Committee, the Executive Committee of the Endowment, and most recently, strategic planning task force.
“Eileen is an outstanding leader, and I am excited for her to bring her knowledge, experience, and passion to the role,” noted Joy Sisisky, Federation CEO. “Eileen begins her tenure as Board Chair at a critical time, and I look forward to working with her to lead the organization through our growth and strategic reorganization as the center for Jewish philanthropy in the Bay Area. Eileen is committed to securing and bolstering the Jewish people, and I know she will continue to lead us from strength to strength.”
Eileen models philanthropy as a generous member of the Federation’s Centennial Living Legacy Society. Although the Federation has been a constant centerpiece in her life, Eileen has also been involved in other Jewish organizations, serving as president of the East Bay Jewish Federation and the East Bay Jewish Community Foundation, and on the boards of Kevah, Jewish Film Institute, Oakland JCC, East Bay JCC, and Berkeley Hillel, and helped to lead Temple Sinai’s Capital Campaign. Outside of the Jewish community, Eileen has chaired the Endowment Campaign for the Piedmont Education Foundation and the Children’s Support League Annual Home Tour, and currently serves as a Piedmont Park Commissioner. She has hosted events for dozens of community organizations, including Oakland Promise.
After her husband passed away in 2016, Eileen established the Rob Ruby Memorial Fund for Jewish Teen Programming to honor his commitment to supporting and engaging young adults. Recently, Jewish Learning Works established the Ruby Award to honor talented teen educators.
Eileen added “I'm excited to be a member of the fabulous team that is charting a course for the Federation to continue to serve the Jewish community well into the future.”
