Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund Appoints Kate Sylvester as Director of Human Resources

San Francisco, CA – The Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund (the Federation) today announced the appointment of Kate Sylvester as Director of Human Resources. Kate will report to CEO Danny Grossman and is responsible for leading the overall human resources function, focusing on practices that support building a diverse and inclusive workplace.

“Kate has served some of the Bay Area’s biggest nonprofit organizations, leading their recruiting, retention, and employee relations functions,” said Danny Grossman. “Her leadership will be a tremendous asset for the Federation as it recruits and nurtures the talent necessary for our team to achieve our strategic goals.”

Kate has nearly two decades of experience serving nonprofit, cultural, and academic institutions. Most recently, she led human resources at SFJAZZ, a 501c3 nonprofit and recognized international leader in jazz creation, presentation, and education developing the audience for jazz in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Prior to SFJAZZ, Kate spent four years managing recruiting at SFMOMA, one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the United States and a thriving cultural center for the Bay Area. Her career began in recruiting at The Sierra Club, continued in HR roles at Simmons University and Dominican University of California, and has included contract HR support for Stanford and Harvard Universities.

“I’m excited to share my skills and best practices with a community-based philanthropic organization,” said Kate. “The Federation does so many important things to help the Bay Area Jewish community, and I look forward to supporting these wonderful professionals and making changes that will advance the organization forward.”

A San Francisco resident for the past nine years, Kate is a graduate of the University of Vermont and holds an M.S. in Communications Management from Simmons College.
