A Statement from the Federation on Violence at the Capitol

San Francisco, CA - Today is truly a sad day for our country. We are outraged by the deadly violence that occurred at the Capitol that forced the suspension of the electoral count and certification process. This is a direct assault on our democracy, which is essential to a secure, thriving community.

We urge every elected leader, especially President Trump, to condemn the violence and insurrection that occurred today, to allow for the continuation of the certification of our Presidential election results, and to support a peaceful transition of power.

At this time, authorities have identified no specific, credible threats of violence or heightened threat in the Bay Area or to the Jewish community. Our community security team is monitoring the situation locally as this unfolds and we will keep you informed of any relevant updates.

We wish for the safety of all involved, especially law enforcement officials, elected representatives, government workers, and others in harm’s way, and hope for the swift return of a peaceful, working democracy.
