Welcoming Sue Reinhold, the Newest Member of our Philanthropy Team
San Francisco, CA – We are excited to announce a strong addition to our philanthropic team at the Federation. Beginning this September, we will be joined by Sue Reinhold, Ph.D., a respected local leader and social entrepreneur in the Bay Area, in the role of managing director of philanthropy. Sue will be charged with overseeing and further developing the Endowment Fund's advisory services and opportunities, focusing on building new models for investment, as well as philanthropic engagement for donor advised fund holders and supporting foundations.
Sue brings to the table a unique perspective as a businesswoman and lay leader. Her expertise and background in mission-driven wealth management are particularly relevant to our work with the next generation of donors and philanthropists. Reporting to Chief Philanthropy Officer Joy Sisisky, Sue will help the Federation build a robust center for Jewish philanthropy by managing the team and growing the business model that will drive our work in building a premier philanthropic advisory practice with a Jewish lens.
Sue, a longtime Bay Area resident from a family with roots in San Francisco going back seven generations, has 25 years of experience delivering excellence in client-centered advisory services, and deep experience as an investor, entrepreneur, and business leader. She is also a recognized leader in the Bay Area Jewish community who has distinguished herself as a strategic-yet-realist guide, mentor, and collaborative decision-maker.
In Sue's own words: "I am values-driven and have always focused on building everything behind a great mission. I'm inspired to improve opportunities for more people to engage in philanthropy and in deeper and new ways. My values are firmly rooted in my study of Judaism and living in and building Jewish community. This is a tremendous opportunity to rework models for philanthropic delivery and to put more Torah in the world. I once found my ancestors' names on the membership rolls of the San Francisco Jewish Federation of Charities from over a century ago, so this is in a way a coming home for me, too. I'm very excited to be joining such a dynamic team."
Sue was a founder and managing partner of an independent financial advisory firm, North Berkeley Investment Partners. With her co-founder and partners, she grew the firm to 225 clients and $275M assets under management and designed a smooth succession out of the firm with her partners in 2016.
Sue also helped found and was the first board treasurer of The Kitchen, a startup religious community, and was treasurer at the JCC of the East Bay during a turnaround period following the recent recession. She is also treasurer of the board of the Mount Zion Health Fund, a member of the board of Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, and a member of the investment advisory committee of Futures Without Violence.
Sue is a graduate of Stanford University and holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Sussex, where she studied as a Marshall Scholar. She recently completed the transformative Wexner Heritage Program. She and her wife, Deborah Newbrun, split their time between Berkeley and San Francisco, where they are raising four high-school and college-aged children in their blended family.
