Reproductive Rights Giving Opportunities

The need for an abortion affects 1 in 4 women of reproductive age.* According to the Guttmacher Institute, 75 percent of abortion patients are low-income women who are often not able to use insurance coverage for the procedure. With restrictions on abortion rising, the logistical challenges and cost hurdles
of obtaining care are becoming insurmountable for many women, particularly women of color.

The Rabbis of the Talmud are clear: abortion is permitted, and in some cases required, for the health and safety of women. Their definition of health and safety encompasses both physical and mental health. Every American movement of Judaism (including the Orthodox Union) is against absolute abortion bans and insists on the importance of women being able to access abortion care for their mental and physical wellbeing.

Since 2019, Federation donor-advised funds have granted over $2.25 million to organizations working to protect reproductive rights and provide access to reproductive health care services. As abortion restrictions have increased and access to care became threatened, our donors have bolstered their commitment to this issue. In fact, between 2019 and 2021, there was a 64 percent increase in the grant dollars our DAFs recommended to organizations working in reproductive health and rights.

Below, we provide information about organizations working in different areas of this field, from direct caregiving and services to advocacy work. If you are looking for more information about a specific topic area of reproductive health and rights, please be in touch with our advising team, and we can help.

*This statistic includes trans men and non-binary people.

We highly recommend the organizations listed here which focus on one or more of three general approaches to reproductive rights: advocacy, access to care, and research. These organizations were curated by our professional philanthropic advisors and informed by the organizations our donor-advised funds support. We encourage you to consider supporting these organizations as part of your giving strategy.
