The Rubin Text Talks: A Year of Learning

This exclusive program, now enrolling its second cohort, is generously supported by Pam & Ron Rubin and seeks to engage committed, curious, and creative people who want to further their Jewish knowledge base.

The Rubins hail from St. Louis, Missouri, and are proud to support the ongoing development of Jewish leaders in the community.

Given the extraordinary interest in programs that anchor Jewish text to contemporary challenges, this curriculum will provide more opportunities for a deeper dive into Jewish study and exploration.

Through The Rubin Text Talks, participants will:

  • Deepen their Jewish knowledge through text study
  • Explore and support personal leadership interests
  • Expand their understanding of critical Jewish community challenges and opportunities
  • Gain access to community luminaries

The Rubin Text Talks is comprised of eight two-hour sessions and one family-friendly retreat (Shabbaton) beginning in October 2019, and ending in June 2020.

Sessions will be led by international luminaries in the field of Jewish thought and learning, including educators, academics, and clergy, as well as Wexner Foundation faculty. We will focus our learning on distinct themes that we’ll explore throughout the year, which may include some of the following:

  • Contemporary issues in the Jewish community
  • Jewish identity
  • Spirituality
  • The politics of identity and belonging
  • The changing relationship between America and Israel
  • Tzedakah, philanthropy, and Jewish values
  • Communal boundaries

We ask that participants commit to attending each session and the retreat, the dates of which will be agreed upon by the group, as well as embody a curiosity and an openness to learning. We hope that being part of this program will inspire an exploration of leadership opportunities in the Jewish community that align with your personal passions.

The application is very simple and easy to complete. Partners and spouses are welcome to apply.

Finally, all sessions will be held in San Francisco.
