The Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund (the Federation) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties is a philanthropic catalyst, connecting Bay Area Jews – of all ages, backgrounds, and perspectives – to the power we have as a community to improve the world. The Federation is looking for highly motivated and qualified individuals with a variety of skill sets who want to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement. POSITION SUMMARY 

The Program Associate for the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Teen Education and Engagement Initiative (Teen Initiative) will support the implementation of this high-profile Initiative with the primary objective of building community-wide capacity to increase engagement of teens in meaningful, innovative, and compelling opportunities that support Jewish growth and healthy development during their high-school years. The five-year Teen Initiative is being launched with major grant funding by the Jim Joseph Foundation, within the context of the Jewish Teen Education and Engagement Funder Collaborative, a network of national and local funders committed to learning together, sharing best practices, and investing in community-based Jewish teen initiatives in ten communities across the country. Housed within the Community Impact department, the Teen Initiative is one of several Federation efforts to address complex community challenges and deepen Jewish engagement. Additional initiatives include Early Childhood Education, Community Building, and Next Gen Engagement.

The San Francisco-based Teen Initiative will include five multi-faceted, synergistic components:

  1. Innovation Accelerator to scale, expand, and diversify innovative programs for teens with grant funding to nonprofit organizations, and cohort-based entrepreneurial training and coaching;
  2. Professional Development to support and enhance effectiveness of experiential Jewish educators and youth professionals, widely recognized as the key to successfully engaging teens;
  3. Experimentation Micro-Grants to pilot and test new program ideas through Jewish organizations area-wide;
  4. Scholarships to create incentives for teen participation in immersive experiences and Israel travel;
  5. Information Hub to provide a centralized resource for teens, parents, and the community with digital and in-person engagement approaches.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

  • Implementation of the Experimentation Micro-Grants, including oversight of an RFP process, engagement of a teen review committee, communication with grantees, and grant management;
  • Responsibile for the development and execution of the Information Hub, including precuring and creating dynamic website content, serving as a source of information and referrals, and developing additional strategies to reach the target audiences;
  • Assist in creating and executing a marketing plan and social media strategy for the Teen Initiative, including strategies for publicizing and raising visibility for all aspects of the Teen Initiative;
  • Contribute to report writing, including data analysis;
  • Support with meeting/workshop/event logistics;
  • Participate in programs related to the Teen Initiative, including professional development workshops and gatherings, Funder Collaborative convenings and other teen-related activities as determined;
  • Engage as a member of a dynamic team of professionals in the Community Impact department and within the larger Federation team;
  • Be a partner in championing the Teen Initiative in the community to elevate the importance of Jewish teen engagement community-wide.

EDUCATION OR TRAINING EQUIVALENT TO

  • Minimum 4-6 years of relevant professional experience with ownership over significant projects, possibly including experience in teen engagement, grant management, and website maintenance/management;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop trusted relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Proven ability to work well independently and in teams;
  • Highly organized with skills in project management, attention to detail, and commitment to follow-through;
  • Comfort using social media as a tool for communication and engagement;
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Federation service area and work a flexible schedule, which may include occasional evenings, holidays or weekends.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Team player with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and across departments
  • Flexibility, including willingness to work with a variety of staff members, maintain flexible hours and travel between regions as needed
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of the Jewish community and tradition; passion for the Federation mission
