Our Impact

Our Impact

Employing many tools toward one goal: having the greatest possible impact.

By collaborating with agency and synagogue partners, donors, and community leaders, we strive to be the most effective organization we can be, efficiently prioritizing limited resources, honoring the philanthropic goals of our donors, and approaching our role from a holistic perspective. Through charitable gifts and planned giving, our work addresses three primary areas:

  • Caring through Community: Working with our partners to bolster the social safety net, support innovative approaches to aging well, and enhance service and volunteerism in the Jewish community – locally and globally.
  • Inspiring Jewish Life & Learning: Helping Jews explore, learn about, and connect with the rich diversity of Jewish life locally.
  • Strengthening Israeli Society: Advancing a pluralistic, democratic, and shared society with equal opportunity for all citizens.

Our new goal – doubling engagement in local Jewish life (within 10 years)

Today, only a small minority Bay Area Jews are affiliated with synagogues, organizations, schools, camps, activities or other Jewish programs. We know the answer to the question “Why be Jewish?” has changed profoundly from previous generations. Fear of survival is no longer a motivation for many younger Jews, and their freedom to identify – or not identify – as Jews has become the new paradigm.

By working with partners to expand opportunities for Jews to access Jewish life and learning, we seek to inspire meaningful Jewish engagement within our community, and to welcome people of all backgrounds to the richness of Jewish life. Our new initiatives – the Community Study: a Portrait of Bay Area Jewish Life and Communities; Campus Initiative on Israel Engagement; and Teen Engagement Initiative – will leverage the Federation’s unique role as a convener, funder, catalyst, and coordinator within our community.
